A Perfect Party: Help Your Entertainer To Help You

As a London children’s entertainer of over 17 years experience, I’ve been to a fair few parties. How many I couldn’t possibly accurately calculate, but I’d hazard a guess that I’m probably past my thousandth party. With all this experience I’ve become acutely aware of what can make or break a children’s party, especially from the entertainer’s perspective. Ideally when hiring an entertainer, the intention is to have a fun party with as little stress as possible. This doesn’t come without some planning and the best parties come from good team work between the client and the entertainer. Communication is vital, make sure you spend some time chatting to your entertainer to make sure they know what they are doing. Personally I feel an entertainer who is willing to compromise and bend to all requests may suggest an entertainer with little or no experience. An experienced entertainer is a source of many hints and tips for making your party successful, so don’t be afraid of picking their brains. A wise client is one who listens to suggestions from the entertainer and works in conjunction with them. Good teamwork is essential for a smooth and calm party. I don’t know about you, but I like to avoid chaos at all costs.

Let’s start with BALLOONS.

Balloons. What party is complete without them? They provide instant festive decoration and are a party must. Right?

Right. But there are also times when balloons can be the cause of party chaos.

As an entertainer who wants to make sure my client’s party experience is a calm and controlled affair, I walk a tightrope of sergeant major/party-pooper. It’s a fine balance of keeping control but also not destroying the fun atmosphere KissCartoon. After all, fun is what a party is about. But out of control fun can soon descend into very unpleasant chaos. This is easily avoided though by taking some precautionary measures.

When clients book a party with me, I suggest to them that if they are having balloons, to make sure they are kept off of the floor.

Party-pooper alert? Hmm, maybe, but balloons are great fun to play with on the floor as long as there is no other planned activity going on. If you are having a free play /soft play session for your party, by all means cover the floor with balloons. They are a simple and cheap way of keeping small children busy. Combine balloons with a few bubbles and that is a party in itself. But and this is a big BUT if you have booked entertainment for the party, keep the focus on the booked entertainment. Children find it hard to focus on one thing if there are lots of other things going on at the same time and that inability to focus often leads to all-consuming chaos.

Using an entertainment agency can take away any headaches sourcing live entertainment can bring. When planning an important event such as wedding receptions, corporate events, birthday parties, school and university parties such as summer balls, it can sometimes feel daunting finding the right entertainment! You may want to look at hiring a soul and funk band, swing band, pop band, rock band, hire a cover band or hire a DJ but haven’t got a clue where to start looking, this is where an entertainment agency can really help. They will have a wide range of live acts available to hire and will also have the knowledge and experience to ensure you find exactly what you are looking for.

One of the most popular events to have live entertainment at is weddings. Other popular events to have live music at are corporate events. Corporate parties including the works Christmas party can be one of the biggest events in a companies calender. You may have been put in charge of organising the event or be a boss that wants to reward all the hard working staff but haven’t got the time to put into making sure you get the right entertainment. After all, we are all busy enough as it is without having to do all the research it takes into ensuring that the works parties entertainment is great – this is why you may want to consider an entertainment agency to do the work for you. The variety of live acts available means that you will be spoilt for choice! Also they will have many reviews and testimonials that will help to reassure you that they have done this all before.

The general most popular entertainment comes in the form of; clowns, ball pits, magicians, face painter, balloon models, bouncy castles, party games and live animals.

Clowns are a very good choice as they are funny and their main aim is to keep the children laughing. It’s usually a single entertainer working alone, which means it is a cheaper option that can have very good results. A common problem with clowns is that some children really aren’t fond of them, and this could create a bad atmosphere with children at the party or event.

Children’s magicians are able to create a great atmosphere in parties as the children are usually too young to understand what happens behind the illusions. Pretty much all kids will find this type of children’s entertainers very interested and as long as you hire one of the quality magicians they will have enough tricks to keep your children entertained for hours. If you’re looking for someone who can do balloon modelling most magicians will kill two birds with one stone; although there are specific balloon modellers available.

Looking for something extra to keep your children entertained and give the professional a break?
Ball pits and bouncy castles are very fun, however hours of the same thing could make the event very boring in the eyes of a child. Children get bored easy, so you want something that changes into a different act when needed. If you combine one of these methods with another such as a clown or magician you can easy keep switching between the two or use the pit or castle as a breaking point for the entertainer. Either way they are sure to keep your children satisfied for a good amount of time. They are usually relatively cheap and can be rented out for the day at a private or public location.
